Hormuz VLCC Strike Escalates Chokepoint Risk as Iran-US — Sep 30

A VLCC sustained projectile damage and fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with multiple agencies confirming the incident after days of unreported attacks. Iranian threats to blacklist charterers forcing transits coincide with US denial of sanctions relief and stalled talks. Parallel high-severity events include Somali forces recovering two hijacked tankers and US-UK SINKEX operations, underscoring dispersed but acute maritime security pressures. Capacity constraints at Piraeus and Savannah expansions continue amid these disruptions. Decision-makers must weigh immediate routing adjustments against longer-term chokepoint exposure.
